Mary Grannan was born in Fredericton in 1900. After 20 years as a teacher at Devon Superior School just across the Saint John river, became a broadcaster of children’s programs on CFBC local radio, and then nationally on the CBC. On her Just Mary program broadcast on Sundays and aimed at 4 to 8 year olds, she read her original children’s stories. The Children’s Scrapbook, for older, school-age children, was broadcast on Saturdays and offered a variety of content, including plays, interviews, and documentary broadcasts recorded outside the studio.

Later she published the stories from Just Mary in book form, which became best sellers during the 1940’s and 1950’s, and also more than 15 titles in the Maggie Muggins series, a collection of stories that had not appeared on the radio program.

Her family home just minutes away on Brunswick Street, where she lived with her two sisters after retirement, was recognized as a New Brunswick Historic Site in 1999.

We are delighted to name this luxurious suite in her honor.
